Useful links

There is great help out there BUT your friend is probably avoiding google (and rightly so). You are given lots of information all at once: the details of your treatment (where, when and what), information about charities and support groups, the potential side effects of chemotherapy, and so much more. It was all a bit much for me and they got lost in the “box I never want to open again”.

There are also leaflets in the oncology departments but again it’s an effort to pick them up and read them while you’re there for treatment. It would be incredibly helpful to scroll through and find useful links for your friend, depending on where they are in their treatment or what their likes are.

Look Good Feel Better

This charity helps you to manage the physical and emotional side-effects of cancer treatment. They run free workshops both virtually and at Cancer Care Centres and Hospitals across the UK to support anyone over the age of 18 through this time.

The Pickering Centre – Tunbridge Wells

The Pickering Cancer Drop-In Centre is there to support anyone touched by cancer. They offer free treatments, tea, coffee, biscuits, cake, time and a place to lose your shit or just have a nice massage, reflexology, acupuncture and more… everyone who volunteers there has either had cancer themselves or has have been affected by it in some way. I feel at home there and I’m so grateful that this is so close to me. If you are not near Tunbridge Wells, have a look for something similar in your area. If you find something similar, let me know and I will put it on here.

Meditation was really helpful for me, in the day and at night. My great friend Jean-Luc Lafitte has some excellent YouTube meditations for Letting go of Fear, Hypnosis for Anxiety and Hypnosis for Insomnia.

Maggie’s is a charity that provides free expert care and support in centres across the UK and online. They have drop-in centres in the following places:
